Alongside working at PQA Conwy I've had the honour of working on several independent films with fantastic people and I'm so excited to be sharing and teaching those skills to our PQA pupils, I assist and teach young people across North Wales and enjoy sharing my passion for filmmaking.

Bethan Simms

Hi! I’m Bethan, a 2022 graduate from LIPA (Dance). Since then I’ve had the incredible opportunity to perform at some amazing events including the BBC’s Eurovision Opening Ceremony, The Northern Design Awards and joined the Co.Creative Performance Company performing across NW. Currently I have the joy of assisting the Musical Theatre module, a role I absolutely love. Being at PQA is particularly special to me, here, I get to share my passion for performing arts with young, aspiring artists, who are eager to learn and express themselves creatively. I love seeing the students grow, not just as performers but as individuals who are passionate about what they do!

Donna Williams

I graduated from the University of Winchester with a BA Hons in Drama and Performing Arts. During my time at university I took part in a range of performance projects from teaching youth groups, devising, pantomime, puppetry, singing in a gospel choir and running drama workshops at a community prison. I went on to work in family entertainment for Tui, Disney, Royal Caribbean and First Choice Holiday Villages. Now based in North Wales, I completed my teacher training at Bangor University. I also have a little side-line in freelance writing, contributing to On Stage Blog, Get The Chance and Early Years Educator among others. I am actively involved in local theatre both on stage and backstage. Theatre credits include Nancy in Oliver, Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun, Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act, Mrs Cratchit in Ebenezer Scrooge and Miss Sherman in Fame. I am thrilled to be working for PQA as it gives me the chance to pass on my love of theatre to the next generation. I believe learning through the arts can provide transferable skills beneficial in any walk of life.

Bella Hughes Jones

Hi everyone! I’m Bella, PQA Conwy’s Musical Theatre teacher. As well as MT, I’m a lover of books and travelling whenever possible! I have been surrounded my Musical Theatre for as long as I remember and have performed in numerous theatres across North Wales. A professional career highlight of mine has been travelling across Italy delivering Drama Workshops for students of all ages. I have worked at PQA Conwy for the past few years as MT Assistant and am beyond excited to step into the Teaching role. I love teaching at PQA because of the comradery and friendly atmosphere! The students are incredible to teach and work so hard and I can't wait to pass on the skills, passion, and knowledge for all things Musical Theatre.

Naomi Hughes

I started dancing and singing at a young age, with my passion for the theatre growing with age. I competed in the Urdu Eisteddfod from ages 5-8, before going into study Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Chester, graduating with a BA Hons. I have played numerous fabulous roles in musicals including Sister Act, Chicago and 9 to 5. In 2023 and 2024 I have had the incredible opportunity to expand my skills by travelling to America to work in a summer camp teaching Musical Theatre, working on choreography and harmonies for the numerous shows we produced. I am thrilled to be working at PQA Conwy with an incredible team, assisting children with developing their passion and skills.

Olivia Winspear

I am a BA (Hons) graduate of Musical Theatre from LMA, and have partaken in a number of shows in my time there; including West Side Story, Sister Act, Chicago, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Kinky Boots and Heathers. My Credits include performances in the M&S Bank Arena, Theatr Clwyd, Theatr Colwyn, Epstein Theatre and St Georges Hall. I am hoping to go back to do my Masters in the next few years studying Classical and Contemporary Acting but in the meantime, I am beyond excited to be joining the PQA Conwy team as Comedy and Drama teacher, to be passing on the knowledge I have learnt while helping our young performers passion grow for our amazing art!

Thomas Ellis

I first became involved with film when I was 17 years old, volunteering my time at arts charity TAPE Community Music and Film, in Old Colwyn. During that time I completed my Diploma in Screenwriting with the Institute of Screenwriting. In 2013 I started working freelance for TAPE, producing content for the likes of Conwy County Council, Denbighshire Council, Mike Peters from The Alarm and hundreds more. During this time, I have worked with groups of all ages to pass on my knowledge and experience of film making, at both junior and senior schools levels. As well as teaching film making, I also write and direct short films and web series, including 'Scarlett' in 2012 featuring actor Spencer Wilding (known now for playing Darth Vader in Star Wars). In 2018, I wrote and directed 'M.E, Myself and I', a short drama highlighting the illness M.E, which caught the eye of both the BFI and acclaimed filmmakers. I write and produce my own comic book, and continue to work on producing more original short films.
