PQA Students film Success.
Students from The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Wolverhampton are delighted to have scored success in the PQA 5 Week Film Challenge with a film by students from the morning academy being a runner up in the national film competition.
Students had to conceive, write, film and edit a film working to a brief giving specific items to include and a theme for the film all in 5 weekends. With students at the academy for just 3 hours per week this meant very limited time for the project.
With the theme of The Great Outdoors students also had to include a lifejacket, wellington boots and a line of dialogue in the film. Every student in the group took part in the filming with a small cast and the rest acting as crew in various roles.
Julian Elcock, Principal at Wolverhampton said “A project such as this really stretches the students as the brief is very specific and all items must be included in a natural way, you can’t just shove a pair of wellies up a corner of the shot, they must feature in a natural way. The students should be very proud of themselves and they can all look forward to attending one of our national film festivals where they will see the film on the big screen”.
Film and Television is an integral part of the classes at PQA Wolverhampton and plans are already in place for more films and a screening at a major cinema complex in the city soon, “Our ambition is to reach the stage where we produce at least 2-3 films per year that can be entered into festivals, our Musical Theatre performers get to appear in the West End, film and TV should be aiming just as high!”
PQA, which was started by actress Pauline Quirke and her producer husband Steve Sheen in 2007, is a weekend performing arts Academy providing tuition for children and young people from 4-18 years. Students spend three hours rotating through hour-long sessions in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & TV. There are more than 170 Academies nationwide.
