PQA Harrogate’s stage combat Masterclass
Students from PQA Harrogate’s AM Academy were put through their paces as they spent their Saturday morning battling their way through a stage combat Masterclass, led by members of the incredible stage combat company True Edge!
The Masterclass introduced students to different elements of unarmed combat skills that are used in both theatre and film. The students were taught techniques in hair and ear pulling, slapping, punching and more, for performance intentions only.
These Masterclasses are a great way for students to learn a variety of intricate skills by top industry professional and gain experiences that they wouldn’t learn anywhere else. Principal of PQA Harrogate, Kellie, said “We are thrilled to have Neil with us today. Neil is a true professional and the students absolutely love learning stage fighting techniques alongside the relevant acting and drama skills to be able to pull off a realistic performance whilst insuring there are no injuries. No easy feat, but our students took on the challenge with enthusiasm and hard work, and absolutely smashed it! I couldn’t be any prouder!”
Speaking on the Masterclass, one PQA student said ‘It was really fun to learn how to put a fight together on stage or on screen!”. Whilst another PQA student simply stated “It was so much fun and I have learned new skills that I can use in our short film, for Film & Television class! I can’t wait to film now!”
True Edge tutor Neil said that it was a pleasure to work with the students at PQA Harrogate and that their enthusiasm to learn these skills was top notch!
