Looking for weekend performing arts training for children in Leeds?

At the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, we provide a combined programme of acting, musical theatre, singing and filmmaking for ages 4 to 18 years. Our goal is to help every child discover self-belief through creative performing arts academies which provide a safe and encouraging environment. More than a drama school for kids, PQA is a place where children and young people learn industry and life skills while having fun.

Why choose our performing arts schools for children

Parents in the Leeds area, and across the UK, choose PQA because our academy is inclusive, structured and welcoming for all. Our professional teachers, with backgrounds in theatre, film and TV, bring passion and real-world knowledge to every class.

PQA is more than a kids’ stage school. Through their performing arts training, children nurture their natural creativity and reach their full potential. Wherever they are starting from, PQA gives them the space and support to grow.

Why choose our performing arts schools for children

Benefits for every age group

Our classes are tailored to suit each stage of development, ensuring the right mix of fun and challenge:

  • Ages 4–6: Play-based sessions with songs, movement and roleplay. These sessions gently build self-confidence and social skills while encouraging imagination.
  • Ages 6–18: Structured training across acting, singing, dancing and screen performance. Older students benefit from more detailed instruction and the opportunity to take on larger performance roles.

This ensures children enjoy learning while gaining skills appropriate to their age and confidence level. Every age group is encouraged to work as part of a team, celebrate each other's successes, and recognise their own progress.

What your child will experience at PQA Leeds.

Our learning framework includes a wide range of performing arts experiences that make learning exciting and impactful: Acting and improvisation: Characterisation, stage presence, voice work and storytelling. Children learn how to create believable characters, project their voice with confidence, and build their imagination through Comedy & Drama classes. Musical theatre: Singing, choreography and ensemble work that teaches teamwork and self-expression. Students discover the joy of combining music and movement while building confidence through group numbers. Film & TV training: Using professional filmmaking equipment, children learn to act for screen and the behind-the-camera roles to create their own short films. Regular showcases and performances allow families to see their child shine on stage and screen. Parents often tell us that these performances become proud milestones and an opportunity to see how far they’ve come. These celebrations encourage children to keep improving and dreaming bigger.

MORE THAN PERFORMANCE

MORE THAN PERFORMANCE

PQA helps children grow as people as well as performers. Parents often notice improvements in confidence, school performance and communication. They discover how to listen carefully, support their peers, and celebrate achievements together. Beyond the stage, these lessons give children the tools to support them in everyday life. PQA becomes a place where children feel at home and where parents feel reassured their child is both safe and inspired.
