Clair Byrne

Passionate about performing arts training for children and young people.

I have always had a passion for performing arts and storytelling. As a child, I was painfully shy and it was by joining a local drama group that I made friends, and developed a sense of bravery leading to confidence. This has helped me through all aspects of my life. I am motivated by helping young people to do the same and I care deeply about supporting young people to find their own quirks and voices through play and self exploration.

As a professional Actor, qualified teacher (PGDE, Distinction), and Committee member of Equity East Midlands, I bring a wealth of industry knowledge and educational expertise to my role as Principal at PQA. Alongside leading the Academies, I serve as Programme Lead for the BA (Hons) Acting degree at Leicester College and De Montfort University, shaping the next generation of performers at higher education level. My career spans stage and screen, including work as an award‑winning film producer and documentary director. This broad experience—both as a performer and an educator—allows me to guide our students with insight, authenticity, and a deep understanding of the performing arts industry. At the heart of my leadership is a commitment to creating a nurturing, creative environment where students feel safe to take risks, explore boldly, and learn through discovery. I champion collaboration over competition, encouraging teamwork in rehearsals, productions, and across the Academies.
