The masterclass was a celebration for our PM Academy having completed their cinema screening, and an introduction to the AM Academy's cinema screening project which the students will be embarking on in the next few weeks.
The masterclass explored the secrets of screen combat and focussed on how to make a fight look realistic on screen. Breaking down the tricks of the trade through unarmed combat, Kiel taught the students how to consistently hit their mark in a fight scene, play to the camera, work with a partner to on how to play intention, fighting in frame and sell the fight to make it believable for the lens.
Kiel received a 1st Class (Hons) from De Montfort University before graduating with a Masters in Acting from Arts Educational Schools, London. Having first been introduced to stage combat whilst playing the battling polar bear, Iorek Byrnison, in a production of His Dark Materials pt. 1 at the Curve Theatre, Leicester, Kiel went on to train with the BADC whilst at drama school. Realising that whilst he wouldn't always get to play an armoured polar bear, he probably would (and did) continue to be cast in roles that required dramatic violence. Kiel now teaches for the BADC and fight coordinates for stage and screen. When not teaching others, Kiel can still be found getting beaten up in various productions as a performer!
