PQA Bristol student stars in locally made independent film

PQA student works with hunk Films, a Bristol based production company, made up of cousins Sam Dawe and Paul Holbrook – two screenwriters turned filmmakers!

Sam worked previously as our Film & TV teacher and Paul’s two children attend PQA Bristol AM.
A Girl and her Gun is a narrative short film; it is a gritty 17-minute long drama about ‘a tormented and neglected 12 year old who decides to stand up to her tormentors’.

The film stars Joe Sims (Broadchurch), Brian Croucher (Eastenders) and our very own Blue group AM student Matilda Randell as ‘the girl’. I along with Paul auditioned those who fit the casting breakdown at PQA Bristol and Matilda absolutely impressed us with her filmic acting ability and performance without words as the character of ‘the girl’ is mainly silent.

The film is currently on the festival circuit and was the winner at the CineMe South West Shorts
2016 and is part of the Official Selection for Västerås Film Festival 2016, Slemani Int.Film Festival 2016, The Smalls Film Festival 2016 and the Aesthetica Film Festival (BAFTA qualifying).
Everyone involved in the shoot which took place on a hot weekend in June 2015 had a blast and it was lovely for Matilda to work with professionals such as Joe Sims who is also Bristol born and coincidentally played Pauline’s son in Broadchurch. Small world!

Well Done to Paul, Sam and of course Matilda.
