Here Comes the Christmas Carol Concert

PQA Students On December 18th last year I was very proud to share the stage with a group of Students from the Academy in two performances of “Here Comes the Christmas Carol Concert”. at the beautiful and historic St Andrews Church in Brighton. Despite the bizarre weather. (Rain, snow, hail and sleet …. all in two hours!!) we all clambered aboard the Big Lemon Bus on Saturday Morning and arrived at St Andrews for our final rehearsal at 11.00am. It was a very long, tiring day for all involved, but the energy, enthusiasm and commitment given by our very own “PQA youth choir” culminated in two amazing performances. They richly deserved their applause from a very happy audience. Julian McDowell, Principal

A word or two from the Producer of the Show

“My production company ' Beside The Seaside Productions' put on a show in the Brighton Festival in 2010 and were lucky enough to be introduced to and audition Julian McDowell as our vicar. The show 'Here Comes the Bride' was a huge success winning three awards including the Argus Angel Award, in no small part down to the wonderful comic performance of Julian. At Christmas the production team decided to put on a Christmas Spectacular bringing the cast back together for 'Here Comes the Christmas Carol Concert', in aid of the Argus Christmas Appeal. We were looking for a children's choir to make the event even more special and our first port of call had to be to Julian and his wonderful cast of child actors at PQA. The first rehearsal bought together our professional cast alongside 32 PQA students; it was quite a noisy first meeting. As the show was being written especially for us the writer attended the rehearsal and the musical director was working on arranging music while we worked. The children had a huge amount to achieve, working with professionals on a new piece with limited rehearsal time. Although initially we were concerned it would be too high a mountain to climb, the PQA students shone! Their performances were great and they worked really hard in rehearsals as well as at PQA. I really noticed a difference in their performances from the beginning of the term to show day. We would not hesitate to work with the PQA students in the future they really added sparkle to our Christmas Show!” Sophia Wylie, Producer, Beside The Seaside Productions
