Note from the Principal
Welcome to The Pauline Quirke Academy Wolverhampton. The Academy has become an established part of the local community and has developed an expert group of teachers and friendly students.
Over the past few years we have had students performing in our West End show, with G4, with Mary-Jess Leaverland and in our own in house productions as well as making films and taking Trinity Exams too.
Students work on projects within classes aimed to teach them relevant and important skills at all levels while keeping the classes fun and energetic. Request a brochure or Enrol online now.
Our major target is confidence; it is just as rewarding, if not more, to see a child who lacks confidence step forward in class as it is to see a confident and experienced child do a great performance at show-time. We try to achieve this through fun and entertaining classes while incorporating the skills and techniques necessary to improve their performing ability.
We would love to show you what we do here at PQA Wolverhampton! If you're interested in a FREE Taster Session, please email or call us for a chat, and we'll arrange for you to visit the Academy. Alternatively, you can register your interest online.
We look forward to welcoming you to PQA Wolverhampton!

Hi, I am Principal and Film and TV teacher for both Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth academies.
I spent 20+ years working as a Barrister practicing criminal law before I set up my first academy at Bridgnorth in 2011. There is no doubt that my experience in court brings a different and valuable wealth of performance experience and gives me a unique insight into the performers world.
As a teenager I was heavily involved in school productions and working for theatre groups and bands. I moved on to working as a lighting technician for bands on tour and also with concert orchestras and theatrical companies before having a change of career and taking up the law.
I returned to the performing world when my son (now 16) began performing as a young child, this rekindled a passion and led to the idea to start Pauline Quirke Academy Bridgnorth with a view to making it a vital part of the town's community, with Pauline Quirke Academy Wolverhampton following 1 year later.
I have recently given up the law and am now working full time in the Performing Arts sphere, I have recently filmed my first documentary film for a local band, a music video and been heavily involved in a short film in our town. I have also recently published my first novel.
I am writing scripts at the moment for a film short with a view to expanding it to a full feature length film if there is sufficient interest and am involved in a new comedy series, the pilot for which we are shooting at the moment including several scenes at my home.
I am passionate about giving students opportunities that simply did not exist in my day and offering that to as many students as possible. Our ethos is that we want to offer students the opportunity to increase their confidence and ability to express themselves through the medium of Performing Arts and Cinema.
Marguerite spent 30 years practicing in law most recently in a judicial role as a Coroner...which is nothing like Quincy for those old enough to remember.
Her main passion is cooking, especially baking and occasionally the results make their way to PQA. Marguerite is passionate about theatre and loves to see plays as often as we are able.
As a lawyer she brings an understanding of performance and technique to PQA along with an organisational flair. Her particular love is costume and she spends huge amounts of time scouring her sources for bits and pieces for our shows.
Julian and Marguerite share the strategic planning for the Academies, with Marguerite leading on Saturday mornings for PQA Bridgnorth and PQA Telford & Wrekin.
Film & Television
Born and raised in the Black Country, Mathew Hammond is an experienced screenwriter and short film director and producer. For almost a decade he has been honing his skills and understanding of the craft through his work on fiction and non-fiction short films, as well as commercial material. Since 2012 he has been running a commercial video production business, and working independently on productions across the nation.
Having graduated with a degree in Film Production from the University of Central Lancashire in 2013, Mathew, as well as working for corporate clients and on other studio productions, also works to create artistic content in the form of short films and music videos, whilst furthermore teaching film, and learning about it himself too, having put into motion new steps in education, in the form of a masters degree.
In recent years, the ambitious filmmaker has collected a wealth of different experiences in the field of teaching film. His background ranges from that of directing a wide variety of performers both young and adult, to running workshops with child and adult actors. H has been involved in large scale feature length films, and worked as a camera operator on popular events, like music concerts for chart topping artists.
Mathew is a strong believer in the education of young and driven filmmakers, particularly when it comes to the principals of filmmaking. Many individuals believe that they can make a good film by simply watching a lot good films, but in reality, without any knowledge of the essential conventions involved in filmmaking, the aspiring director is probably doomed to cliché and catastrophe. At PQA Mathew hopes to avoid this very outcome through practice and refinement. Handing over to students the essential level of understanding required, to understand and interpret form into their own work, both in film, and other artistic mediums.
Comedy & Drama
I am a qualified teacher of drama, who has been teaching for the past six years. Recently a new Mum to Ophelia, I am now working part-time and have decided to join PQA for my love of drama and comedy.
I have a passion for directing and have a wealth of experience in a school setting directing various small scale productions as well as supporting GCSE and A Level work.
In 2016 I was the producer of the whole school production of Annie, which went onto win the Cloumba Trophy, competing against schools across the city of Birmingham. Throughout my teaching career I have directed a range of musicals including High School Musical, Our House, West Side Story and Annie.
A strong believer that drama is accessible for all I have been heavily involved in extracurricular drama, running groups for all ages and regularly showcasing scripted and devised work. On an odd occasion even having to step in when a cast member had chicken pox!
I studied Drama and Performance BA (Hons) degree at the University of Wolverhampton 2007-2010. Focusing on drama teaching in my final year I went on to complete my PGCE in Secondary Drama teaching at Birmingham City university 2010- 2011 where I gained QTS.
I have appeared in various productions throughout my school career, Bugsy Malone, Grease, Two and through University Hamlet and Snow White and the seven dwarves. I am a keen scriptwriter in my final year writing an original piece called 'A Typical' in the style of 'Off off Broadway'.

Front of House / Film & TV Assistant
Hi, I am Jordan and I began as a student at Pauline Quirke Academy Wolverhampton way back in 2012. I found that Pauline Quirke Academy gave me confidence and enjoyment in the arts and so when I left at 18 I became an assistant at the academy to keep my hand in with the performing arts.
While the day job is horticulture I love performing and so Pauline Quirke Academy is a great outlet for that, I also DJ professionally.
My main role in the academy is as a Film and TV assistant although I help out throughout the whole academy.
Green Group Assistant
Hello, my name is Amber and I am the Green Group Assistant. I joined PQA in 2016 and have thoroughly enjoyed working here. I have studied Performing Arts at a local college for three years and continue to show my passion through being an assistant.
Being part of the PQA team has enhanced my confidence and has taught me parts of the performing arts industry I did not know before joining.
Musical Theatre Assistant
My name is Joshua and I am 19 years old. Before I transferred over to be an assistant in Musical Theatre I was a student at PQA performing in the West End Show on two occasions and I will have the honour of being in the cast of Wolverhampton's performance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in summer 2018.
I am a lead actor on The Long Way Home, a World War I movie shooting this summer and due for release in November 2018 where I play William Armitage, a young man from a local manor estate who joins up and finds himself in the middle of the trench warfare. I also write and create my own films in my spare time and I love going to the theatre and musical films.
