WELCOME TO PQA TELFORD & WREKIN!

We operate on Saturdays where we welcome students aged 4 to 18. Each week students have sessions in Comedy & Drama, Musical Theatre and Film & Television, led by our fantastic team of Teachers and Teaching Assistants.

We are always working on exciting projects which feature our students performing in a variety of different roles, in musicals, plays and films.

We are passionate about every student's personal journey with us, and the whole team work hard to ensure every single student is given the opportunity to become the best performer they can be, and reach their potential creatively. Every student has something unique to offer, and it's our job to encourage this and develop it!

We would love to show you what we do here at PQA Telford & Wrekin. If you're interested in a free taster session, please call us for a chat and we'll arrange for you to visit the Academy. Alternatively, you can request a brochure or enrol online now – we look forward to welcoming you to PQA!

Julian Elcock – Principal PQA Telford & Wrekin

Meet the Team

Julian Elcock

Principal

Julian Elcock - Principal

Hi, I am Principal and Film and TV teacher for both Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth academies.

I spent 20+ years working as a Barrister practicing criminal law before I set up my first academy at Bridgnorth in 2011. There is no doubt that my experience in court brings a different and valuable wealth of performance experience and gives me a unique insight into the performers world.

As a teenager I was heavily involved in school productions and working for theatre groups and bands. I moved on to working as a lighting technician for bands on tour and also with concert orchestras and theatrical companies before having a change of career and taking up the law.

I returned to the performing world when my son (now 16) began performing as a young child, this rekindled a passion and led to the idea to start Pauline Quirke Academy Bridgnorth with a view to making it a vital part of the town's community, with Pauline Quirke Academy Wolverhampton following 1 year later.

I have recently given up the law and am now working full time in the Performing Arts sphere, I have recently filmed my first documentary film for a local band, a music video and been heavily involved in a short film in our town. I have also recently published my first novel.

I am writing scripts at the moment for a film short with a view to expanding it to a full feature length film if there is sufficient interest and am involved in a new comedy series, the pilot for which we are shooting at the moment including several scenes at my home.

I am passionate about giving students opportunities that simply did not exist in my day and offering that to as many students as possible. Our ethos is that we want to offer students the opportunity to increase their confidence and ability to express themselves through the medium of Performing Arts and Cinema.

Marguerite

Vice Principal

Marguerite - Vice Principal

Marguerite spent 30 years practicing in law most recently in a judicial role as a Coroner...which is nothing like Quincy for those old enough to remember.

Her main passion is cooking, especially baking and occasionally the results make their way to PQA. Marguerite is passionate about theatre and loves to see plays as often as we are able.

As a lawyer she brings an understanding of performance and technique to PQA along with an organisational flair. Her particular love is costume and she spends huge amounts of time scouring her sources for bits and pieces for our shows.

Julian and Marguerite share the strategic planning for the Academies, with Marguerite leading on Saturday mornings for PQA Bridgnorth and PQA Telford & Wrekin.

Louisa

Comedy & Drama

Louisa - Comedy & Drama

Louisa is a qualified teacher with an undergraduate degree in Drama and Theatre Arts, University of Birmingham.

Having always been involved in performing arts as a child, Louisa went on to join the Leicester Drama Society. She was involved in productions both on and off stage; keen to learn through all areas of theatre craft. Her wide portfolio includes credits in acting, stage management and choreography.

Whilst studying for her degree, Louisa was privileged to work for PQA Leicester as their Comedy and Drama teacher. This is where Louisa really developed her passion for teaching and education; giving young people the opportunity to express themselves, widen their experiences and build their confidence. A move to London saw her focus primarily on her teaching, using drama as an effective tool in the classroom. She has given her school colleagues professional development on the use of drama and theatre craft in the curriculum, supporting them to use techniques that inspire creativity, expression and imaginative thought.

Having moved back to the midlands, Louisa is now keen to return to PQA as she has missed the Saturday morning fun! She cannot wait to meet the students and get started on exciting projects, as they begin their own journey with the performing arts.

Sally-Ann

Musical Theatre

Sally-Ann - Musical Theatre

I have had a strong interest in the performing industry since I was little girl. I tried loads of hobbies and clubs when I was younger but never enjoyed most of them and then; BANG, I became a musical theatre enthusiast!

In my last year of primary school I took part in a talent show where I impersonated Whitney Houston.  Getting my first round of applause gave me such a thrill and ever since then I've loved performing!

I've studied Performing Arts and Dance at a local College then I drifted away from the Arts. Recently I realised just how much I miss performing, rehearsals, the nerves and even the laughs! I would love to now help young children in to finding their inner talents and help them become more confident and creative - I wouldn't have wanted my childhood any other way!

Julia

Poppets

Julia - Poppets

Julia studied BA(Hons) Fashion Design at Leeds College of Art. She graduated with first class honours and spent some time working, in London, in the fashion industry. During this time she had the opportunity to assist high profile designers, stylists and PR executives.

Hoping to use her creativity to inspire others, on return to Shropshire, she worked in schools supporting teaching and learning.  Thoroughly enjoying her roles, she then went on to achieve her PGCE in Primary Education with QTS through Chester University.  Whilst working in schools Julia used her fashion design background to put together costumes, make up and props, she has also been heavily involved in school productions working with the children and other staff.

She gains a great satisfaction when she feels she has made a difference and a child makes progress.

Aimee

Teaching Assistant

Aimee - Teaching Assistant

I have always had a passion for performing arts since primary school where I took part in many different shows and performances. This passion has continued through my education and I'm now studying an undergraduate degree in Drama and Education at Newman University in Birmingham.

I have taken part in and have been the lead many different applied theatre workshops and worked with young people of various ages within the performing arts. I hope to go on to achieve a PGCE and become and fully qualified teacher in Drama, and hopefully inspire other young minds who share the same passion.
