WELCOME TO PQA STOURBRIDGE!

As principal of PQA Stourbridge I work closely with my team to keep the highest standard possible for all our members. Everyone is seen as equal and each student will be offered the same opportunities as everyone else from showcase performances to cinema screenings of their film and television work. They will all have the chance to shine on stage not just one or two but every single student.

Students will leave our academy every week with their heads held high and a smile on their faces knowing they have the confidence to take on the world and all its challenges.

Raj Bhambra - Principal

I am absolutely honoured to be the principal of PQA Stourbridge!

I started my ballet training at the age of 12 and had moved over to contemporary dance by the time I had reached college. This is where it all really started - I was offered a position at the Riven dance company in Birmingham. I worked with Nivea on a product tour around the country during Cancer Research UK's Race for Life campaign, as a backing dancer for Boy George and many more productions around the UK.

At the age of nineteen, I was offered the position of Choreographer at Big Picture PR. The project I took on was choreographer for the support act of reggae artist Sean Paul. The show culminated in the pre-show party for the MTV Europe music awards.

At the age of 21 I met the managing director of Prism Music Group (signed to Sony BMG) who offered me the role of Artistic Development manager/choreographer and put me into a team to work on a rebranding project. The artists assigned to me were the 1950's Motown act The Drifters. Not the ones you see in Spain and certainly not the guys on the cruise ship - these were the original and official group who live and work in the USA.

After 7 years, 500 shows all over the world, a lifetime of experience, gaining a record deal for the group as a team, and the position of producer under my belt I finally decided to hit out on my own and produce my own shows.
I was then offered the opportunity I could not turn down- to be the principal of PQA Solihull.

In between all the tours and performances I have always taught for youth theatre and dance education companies as a tutor and choreographer. I love teaching children and young adults, as being able to pass on my knowledge and experience gave me such a feeling of fulfilment. To watch their development under my tutelage was as inspiring to me as much as it was to them.

Me and my team will endeavour to make sure our students leave PQA with the confidence to be themselves and take on the world with their heads held high.

Vice Principal

Hyacinth - Vice Principal

After completing training at Birmingham School of Speech Training & Dramatic Art I have worked and performed in a variety of musical theatre, drama and rehearsed reading productions.

I later joined The Beechmen Drum and Bugle Corps, an American Style marching band, competing against other Corps around the country. Here I was able to hone my performing and Physical Theatre skills in a completely different genre whilst supporting the choreography and rigorous dance routines required within the Colour and Rifle Guard section of the Corps.

Mike has also performed at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham on two occasions in 'Annie' and 'Footloose'.

In addition to this, Mike has also had the opportunity to be a technician at The Crescent Theatre in Birmingham. He has continued to explore and develop his passion for drama in the Performing Arts industry.

Aside from his Theatrical work, Mike supports a secondary school with their Performing Arts department, including putting on and stage managing shows. He has also had the experience of participating within a LAMDA course which brings a professional dynamic to his teaching. Mike has even written his own short play for Stourbridge Academy upon its opening titled, 'A Day in the Life of PQA'.

Mike is really enthusiastic about drama, and cannot wait to teach you everything he knows so that you can become the professional actors and actresses that you have always wanted to be!

Tom

Musical Theatre

Tom - Musical Theatre

During his time at secondary school, Tom worked alongside the Music Department to promote singing and performing arts to younger students in the school. The school were delighted with the results and awarded him the Creative Arts Cup.
Tom has recently completed a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre at Birmingham Ormiston Academy, graduating with triple distinction star (the highest grade possible) in all three disciplines of singing, acting and dancing.
Focusing on singing technique and maintaining a healthy voice, Tom has achieved a Diploma in LCM Musical Theatre. The experience of playing the piano and the ability to sight-read musical compositions allows for vocal training and repertoire singing.
Over a number of years, Tom has succeeded in 'bringing to life' a variety of contrasting characters with various musical theater companies. Some credits include:
Jimmy Smith - Thoroughly Modern Millie
Michael Spofford - Witches of Eastwick
Edwin - Summer Holiday
Tony Forte - Copacabana
Luther Billis - South Pacific
Monsieur Andre - Phantom Of The Opera

Tom has been awarded a RADA at Bronze Level, exposing him to the precision required when tackling works by Shakespeare. The vocational experience of acting in front of a camera was undertaken by his lead role in 'A Bench on Platform 3'.
Successfully auditioning to become a student at Arts Educational Schools, London, (President- Andrew Lloyd Webber) from September 2016 continues to reinforce his love of Musical Theatre. This challenging and motivating course positively encourage practical experience with the goal of him becoming a 'triple threat' performer, which is vital in the industry today.
With determination and a willingness to further develop, Tom's ultimate aspiration is to obtain principal male roles in the performing arts industry.
"We are most fortunate, privileged and excited that Tom is prepared to travel to PQA Stourbridge from London each week to share his experience, knowledge, and skills with our students."
