Hi, my name is Kellie Taylor and I am delighted to be the Principal of The Pauline Quirke Academy Stockport.
I have been involved in the arts from a very young age and when I finished school I continued my studies in the performing arts. For 5 years, I attended The University of Winchester where I achieved a BA Hons in Performing Arts and an MA in Creative and Critical Writing. During my years at University I discovered my passion and desire to work with children. In 2005 I spent my summer in Africa implementing an Educational Drama Initiative in a local school. My time spent working with this school and its students was some of the most rewarding months of my life. I returned home to finish my studies knowing that I wanted to make working with children my future.
As a child, I performed in a production of The Sound of Music, and then 13 years later I found myself involved in the same show, only this time my role was as Assistant Director. Other shows I have performed in include: Iolanthe, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Frankenstein, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Stepping Out (performer and assistant director for this production), When the Lights Go on Again, Annie and much more.
In the past years, I have progressed from assistant director to director and my credits include; Summer and Christmas concerts, High Society, Annie, Oliver, Whistle Down the Wind. I have also written and directed my own award winning musical; A Fist Full of Love. As well as being the Principal of PQA Stockport I am also the Principal of PQA Harrogate and our students have recently performed PQA's musical The Lazy Ace at Her Majesty's Theatre, West End, London.
What I admire most about being in the Performing Arts is the confidence it can inspire in a person; I have seen children go from being incredibly shy to holding a leading role on a West End stage. Confidence is something I wish to help the students of PQA achieve and not just for the stage but for them to go out and be a part of this world with their head held high. My time at University taught me not only the skills to perform but also how to create my own theatre, which opens so many more doors to a person who loves the Arts. This is something I wish to inspire in the students of PQA, children have amazing and vast imaginations and PQA, through their unique and tailored modules, offer them the chance to explore this while making new friends and having a lot of fun along the way, an experience that will last your children a lifetime.
Vice Principal & Musical Theatre
I started singing, dancing and acting at a very young age, performing on various stages in Portugal. After graduating from college I went to Germany to study musical theatre at the stageart Musical School in Hamburg.
Getting my diploma in all three subjects and graduating as best student I was put forward for lead roles in German theatres and also gained some experience being part of a dance company and on TV.
For the past four years I have played lead roles in plays and musicals travelling across Europe.
In my time in the UK I have previously volunteered and been the poppets teacher at PQA Harrogate and been part of amateur dramatic societies as an actress and choreographer.
Currently I am also working as a personal trainer, fitness instructor and dance teacher in Manchester.
At PQA Harrogate I would love to help the next generation discover and help develop their talent, by being an inspiration and sharing my passion and experience in performing arts.
Comedy & Drama
I have been in and around film, theatre and television for most of my life. I started my training aged 7 at Oldham Theatre Workshop and Marianne Jepson School of Dance, where as well as gaining my numerous I.S.T.D. Qualifications I also began my teacher training. I attended Braeside Drama School aged 13 where I gained numerous L.A.M.D.A. qualifications. My training then continued at North Cheshire Theatre School.
I have performed in many of the theatres in the northwest of England and also further afield in many and varied professional theatre productions.
As well as theatre, I have appeared in various television programmes, working for the BBC and ITV and also film.
I have been teaching both Drama and Dance in the UK, America and in Spain for over 20 years and was the founder and director of Nerja Theatre Workshop in Spain where as well as teaching; I was producing, directing and choreographing many stage productions. I also ran sister company, R.T. Castings, a casting agency for television, theatre and film where I was working with production companies and supplying actors and supporting artists for diverse roles.
I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work with everyone at PQA and I hope to create some great work and more fantastic memories and experiences for us all to keep with us for many years to come.
Film & Television
Fraser graduated from Teesside University with a 2:1 BA in Television & Film Production in 2014 and has since been working as a freelance Cinematographer and set up a video production company, creating bespoke promotional videos for local and international businesses. He also spent a year teaching A-Level film studies at his local college, helping the students achieve their predicted grades while also inspiring one student to continue her media studies to University, and supporting another through an internship with a production company in Los Angeles.
Fraser recently finished working as Director of Photography on a feature film, set in the North East of England, working with an award winning director and leading a team of local filmmakers, and is looking forward to the next adventure with PQA, and the films he's going to help put together.
Ciara recently graduated from the University of Salford with a First Class Honours degree in Performance: Drama & Theatre. Ciara has 12+ years' experience in drama and performance, including both amateur and semi-professional work. She has 4 theatre credits with award nominated fringe theatre company, Vertigo Theatre Productions. She has a wealth of experience in both naturalistic scripted work and devised pieces. Ciara studied contemporary theatre in more depth at university and loves to try new things and think outside the box. She has spent several years working with children and young people in both a voluntary and professional capacity. Ciara is excited to begin her PQA journey and cannot wait to meet all the poppets and have lots of fun.
Claire is a recent graduate from The University of Salford where she achieved a First Class BA Honours degree in Performance: Drama & Theatre as well as being awarded the Best Graduate in Drama & Theatre. Claire has an interest in all aspects of theatre with experience in naturalistic and contemporary work, on stage and off stage. Focusing on being on stage at university she spent four weeks of her studies in an American exchange program learning the ins and outs of how Musical Theatre is put together from a technical point of view.
Claire has been performing from a young age, from being in dance classes and completing dance exam in Acrobatics and Disco to performing in local youth theatres and gaining various L.A.M.D.A. qualifications. Claire has worked creatively with children age 4-18, creating a space where children can have fun and express themselves. She cannot wait to continue this through her role at PQA with the Poppets!
Ever since I was young I have always loved to sing, dance and act on stage. Throughout the years I have been apart of multiple theatre and dance schools, taking advice and wisdom from my teachers and applying it to life and my future career.
During my Secondary School years I took part in multiple shows such as Billy Elliot and Les Misérables where I played Michael and Jean Valjean respectively. I went on to graduate from Edge Hill University with a 2:1 BA Hons in Dance and Drama.
Whilst studying at Edge Hill, I gained an interest in teaching and so decided that after gaining some experience in a teaching environment, I would apply for my PGCE in Drama. Through the generosity of Kellie Taylor, I have been given the opportunity to help out at PQA Stockport, and I am looking forward to working with the experienced staff as I feel I can learn a lot from them.
Film & Television Assistant
I've always had a passion for film since the age of six when I first got my hands on an old DV tape camera. Since that first love I have studied film at school, through GCSEs, A Levels and University, graduating in 2015 from the University of Westminster's Film and Television school.
I specialise in film sound and a number of projects I've been a part of have done very well in international film festivals. Most recently a short I worked on had its world premiere at the London Film Festival. I am very much looking forward to giving the PQA children the same opportunities I have had!
