Welcome to PQA Lincoln!
PQA Lincoln provides a unique opportunity for children and young adults from 4 – 18 years to receive quality training in performing arts, covering Drama & Comedy, Musical Theatre and Film & Television. Operating from The Knight's Building, Lincoln College from 9.45 am – 1.00 pm on Saturdays, we cover every aspect of performing arts, including screen acting, singing, script writing, acting for the stage and filmmaking.
Taking part in performing arts is hard work but extremely rewarding. It offers the opportunity to be part of something that explores different ideas and ways of expressing them; developing skills, learning new ones and working together to be a part of something special. At PQA Lincoln we want every young person that comes along to feel valued and to be given the opportunity to contribute in their way. We aim for them to leave each session with a smile and much to think about.
Note from the Principal:
As Principal, my priority is to provide a happy, safe and inclusive environment where every individual is recognised for their unique talents and abilities. I want to ensure that every aspect of their PQA experience is a positive one. Our team of professional teachers are dedicated to providing challenges and helping our students reach their goals, whether that is to be industry ready and able to take the next steps in their career as a creative, or simply to make new friends, be part of a team and have fun.
At PQA Lincoln we are kicking off the autumn term with a fabulous Juke Box Musical Project and will be working toward a winter presentation. We are looking forward to making more films to be shown at our fabulous cinema screening and will be planning the first of our Trinity exams. The Poppets as they will be taking part in more exciting themed weeks and will be receiving their very own Poppet's Passport as they learn more performing arts skills as they explore various places around the world. They will also be working toward their own performance as they present The Gingerbread Man.
You are very welcome to phone for a chat or to book your child onto a free taster session. Please feel free to call or email to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Hi, I'm Hayley and I am thrilled to be the Principal of PQA Lincoln!
I see myself as a creative developer and I bring a variety of experiences to the role of Principal. For me, the love of arts and working with young people has always gone hand in hand and I am dedicated to supporting young people with their journey as they discover the arts and the many skills that it can give them, both as an artist and as an individual.
I have worked extensively in arts and education and have written, directed and produced numerous productions, set up and run workshops, master classes and arts projects and have devised and guided groups through Trinity group exams. I have always enjoyed performing; training as a dancer from an early age and taking part in numerous productions but I have mainly been drawn to the work that goes on behind the scenes, particularly writing and theatre design.
Having graduated from Liverpool with a degree in Drama and English Literature, the opportunity presented itself to run a musical theatre academy and during the ten years running this academy I gained a great deal of experience, managing three schools across two counties.
With two pre-school age daughters I decided that it was time to move on and took my previous experience into short-term arts projects that focused beyond musical theatre and branched into other forms of performance and visual arts, as well as working as a freelance writer.
I am a great believer in working collaboratively and I have been very fortunate to work with and learn from some incredible individuals and I have been privileged to build some amazing teams. I met my husband, Noel, shortly after graduating, while working together on a production in Glasgow and he has been an amazing support, now bringing his own knowledge and experience as part of PQA.
PQA's whole ethos resonates very strongly with me and I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful team, with young people's development at its heart, and to be able to lead this new academy and bring so many amazing new opportunities to young people in Lincoln!
Noel is a musician and sound engineer who got involved in performing arts from an early age and enjoyed acting and singing before graduating onto music and the technical side of sound production and engineering.
Noel has experience in studio and radio production and live sound engineering working on large-scale concerts and conferences and theatre productions. He has played with numerous bands and worked as a live and studio session musician. He particularly enjoyed performing original material and collaborating with others to make new music.
These days Noel has less time to pursue music but enjoys his extensive guitar collection and works and records collaboratively whenever possible. His work demands a great deal of public speaking and Noel has been used a number of times for professional training videos within his industry.
Noel has a great appreciation for all the teams that work behind the scenes and knows the hard work involved. He is thrilled to be able to share his love of music and technology and his experiences as a member of the PQA team.
Comedy & Drama
Alex is an actor and musician who has been involved in many aspects of theatre and performing arts. Having graduated from the University of Lincoln, first with a Drama degree and subsequently with a Masters in Playwriting, Alex went on to work as creative director for a theatre company specialising in new writing and working with young actors looking for support in launching their arts careers.
Alex has been involved in writing and directing numerous productions and has combined his performance experience with his understanding of arts education to work as an inspiring acting coach working alongside his arts projects in various secondary schools as a supply drama teacher. He is looking forward to working with PQA students to provide them with a supportive and engaging environment in which to develop their comedy and drama skills.
Susan is an experienced actress who has a wealth of performance experience on both stage and screen and has been involved in many aspects of the industry including performing, directing and coaching. Susan has been bringing her knowledge of screen acting to our Film & Television and she also teaches our Musical Theatre module.
Having begun her training at the Birmingham School of Acting, Susan's talent and dedication has afforded her many opportunities, both in theatre, where she has toured extensively and appeared on stage in West End shows at theatres such as Victoria Palace and the Prince Edward, and on television in numerous commercials and in a variety of independent short films. Susan has worked as a lecturer, a singing coach and a private vocal coach to a number of television and radio presenters. She is a talented singer and also regularly performs with a 16 piece band, a 5-piece function band and in her own solo cabaret.
Film & Television
Steve is a motivated and energetic artist who continues to build on his extensive performing arts experience, and is so pleased to be a part of the PQA Lincoln team. He has a degree in Media production and has created a number of short films both during his studies and since graduating. He has appeared on screen in Hollyoaks, Wonder Woman and Disney's Dumbo and has worked with the likes of William Moseley, Chris Pine, Brian Blessed and Director/Producer Tim Burton. Steve regularly works on new skills that he can bring to his work as a stunt performer, including kickboxing, scuba diving and horseback riding.
Steve has experience working with children of all ages and is so pleased to be a part of the PQA Lincoln team and facilitating our students' fabulous film projects.
Georgina is so excited to be working with our wonderful Poppets on their PQA journey.
George has just returned from teaching abroad where she worked with children in countries across the world including Egypt, China and Vietnam. Having trained in performing arts she has worked in a number of roles that have allowed her to combine her passion for drama, dance and singing with her love of teaching, such as taking part in theatre tours in the UK. Georgina has even worked as an elf in Lapland (Yes, she really is THAT magical!).
Georgina's love of children shines through in her work and she values and cherishes each child's talents and unique personality giving them room to express themselves, responding enthusiastically and gentle helping them to channel their energy.
Harriet has always had a passion for performing arts and has now taken this to the next stage, studying drama at degree level. She has performed in numerous productions in a wide variety of settings, including a solo performance at the Edinburgh Fringe. She has a Grade Eight qualification in Opera Singing and is Vice President and President Elect of the University's A-Capella Society.
Harriet's teaching experience began in the water as she worked as a swimming instructor for children aged four to sixteen years. She is now transferring that experience into the industry that she loves. Harriet radiates warmth and encouragement and her patient approach allows the Poppets to thrive and develop at their own pace.
Dan is positive and energetic and brings a real element of fun and adventure. He has travelled extensively and worked with children in numerous countries including Lapland, Egypt, China and Vietnam. Dan has a passion for creating and playing music and before his travels was a member of the Northern Star Drum and Bugle Corps.
Dan has a genuine passion for working with young people and is always keen to develop his own skills and experience in order to give as much as possible. He is bringing all of his experience and imagination to the role of Academy Assistant and is keen to motivate our students and inspire a zest for life a good work ethic and the confidence to create fearlessly.
