Hi, my name is Kellie Taylor and I am delighted to be the Principal of The Pauline Quirke Academy Harrogate. I am also the Principal of PQA Stockport.
I have been involved in the arts from a very young age and when I finished school I continued my studies in the performing arts. For 5 years, I attended The University of Winchester where I achieved a BA Hons in Performing Arts and an MA in Creative and Critical Writing. During my years at University I discovered my passion and desire to work with children. In 2005 I spent my summer in Africa implementing an Educational Drama Initiative in a local school. My time spent working with this school and its students was some of the most rewarding months of my life. I returned home to finish my studies knowing that I wanted to make working with children my future.
As a child, I performed in a production of The Sound of Music, then 13 years later I found myself involved in the same show, only this time my role was as Assistant Director. Other shows I have performed in include: Iolanthe, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Frankenstein, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Stepping Out (performer and assistant director for this production), When the Lights Go on Again, Annie and much more.
In the past years, I have progressed from assistant director to director and my credits include; Summer and Christmas concerts, High Society, Annie, Oliver, Whistle Down the Wind, and most recently PQA Harrogate performed The Lazy Ace at Her Majesty's Theatre in the West End. I have also written and directed my own award winning musical; A Fist Full of Love.
What I admire most about being in the Performing Arts is the confidence it can inspire in a person; I have seen children go from being incredibly shy to holding a leading role on a West End stage. Confidence is something I wish to help the students of PQA achieve and not just for the stage but for them to go out and be a part of this world with their head held high. My time at University taught me not only the skills to perform but also how to create my own theatre, which opens so many more doors to a person who loves the Arts. This is something I wish to inspire in the students of PQA, children have amazing and vast imaginations and PQA, through their unique and tailored modules, offer them the chance to explore this while making new friends and having a lot of fun along the way, an experience that will last your children a lifetime.
Vice Principal & Musical Theatre
Purvi has been involved in Musical Theatre for almost her entire life, and received her BFA with honours in Musical Theatre from Pace University in New York City. Whilst in New York Purvi had the opportunity to work with award winning actors, writers and directors which has given her an incredible and varied insight to the whole world of theatre, and enabled her to continue to develop as an artist. She was also lucky enough to perform in numerous off-Broadway shows and has been involved in the process of developing new works, some of which are now in workshops for full Broadway productions.
Purvi is a massive lover of all the performing arts, having started off in pantos and amateur dramatics from the age of 6, to working as a professional actor now, and loves sharing her passion and knowledge with others. She is extremely excited to be teaching at PQA and to help inspire and develop the next generation of actors!
Film & TV
Community storyteller and documentary filmmaker, Sarah-Beth grew her roots in filmmaking through writing fairytales and exploring magical realism, using social morals and symbolism to inspire creative filmmaking. Graduating from Manchester School of Art and elected as Community Officer at The Union MMU, the past 5 years Sarah-Beth has been collaborating with Manchester communities in areas of Housing, Liberation and Sustainability through initiating community campaigns. Sarah-Beth is the Creative Director for Luna Women's Foundation, currently running a Creative Heritage Project 'Raised By Feminists', their interest as a Community Filmmaker will expand into empowering women to engage heritage with artistic experience to create interactive media.
Comedy & Drama
Kirsty has been performing in the music industry from a young age, achieving her Grade 8 ABRSM singing qualification, and Grade 5 LAMDA drama qualification before studying Music Performance at York St. John University. A passion for singing drove Kirsty to take on performance roles both around the UK and internationally, alongside stars such as Katherine Jenkins.
Kirsty has worked with children in summer schools, kids clubs and as a dance teacher for more than a decade, and is a firm believer that working in the theatre industry can help drive children's social and academic development forward whilst inspiring their creativity.
She is hugely excited to be working with our Poppets!
My name is Laura. Due to being shy as a child, I was never into performing arts. However, from the age of ten, I loved performing in school productions. I chose to study performing arts in high school and went on to study it at college.
A dream of mine would be to work in the West End and be in a musical.
I'm looking forward to helping everyone at PQA and helping their confidence and skills progress.
Film & Television Assistant
From a really young age I always knew that I wanted to be involved in the arts, originally as an actor but over time things changed and I realised that my talent was in directing. I also have a passion for writing and editing too, it's a great release for me!
In 2014 I made a fan-made intro for the popular television series "The Real Housewives of Orange County" and it played on an American talk show called GDLA! Recently I made a short film with my friend & PQA Harrogate student Shannon to enter into the #SinisterHomeMovie Competition. The winner's short would be featured on the Sinister 2 Blu-Ray. We didn't win but we got runner up prize, which we were both really proud of. Other experience I have had is when I did a week's work experience at West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds 3 years ago and this year at Twenty Twenty Films in Keighley.
I am currently studying Creative Media Production Level 3: Extended Diploma at Craven College. I started PQA as a student in 2013 and then left shortly after in 2014 because my college course was really draining. I made some really great friends and built my confidence up a lot. I'm really pleased to spend my Saturday's with the team again, this time helping out in Film and TV!
