ABOUT OUR OPENING DAY
Our aim is to introduce the ethos behind The Pauline Quirke Academy, to demonstrate what we do and how we achieve our goals, how your children will benefit from our classes and, above all, to allow your children to get a flavour of The Academy.
Following a brief introduction the children are divided into age groups and get to sample classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television (don't worry if your child does not want to join in at this stage, we know that some will be shy, they can just watch and possibly have a go when they're ready). Parents are welcome to stay with their children – of course this happens with the younger groups but teenagers will usually not have their parents anywhere near an unpolished performance!
During the classes parents can have some refreshments, a chat with the PQA staff, and really begin to learn what we are all about! We would also encourage spending some time sneaking a look at your children during their sessions. They really are great fun...
...I look forward to meeting you on the day!
Ashley Wade – Principal PQA Halifax
Hello, my name is Ashley Wade and I am delighted to be the Principal at PQA Halifax.
I started performing at the age of six with a local theatre company and from the moment I first stepped on stage I knew I wanted a career performing.
In 2009 I graduated from Performers College with a degree in Professional Musical Theatre, before successfully obtaining a two year contract working for the Walt Disney Company in Paris.
When I returned to the UK, I set up base in Halifax working with several local theatre companies and for the past seven years I have been the resident director and choreographer for a local youth theatre company. I soon found that I had a real passion for working with young performers and getting them engaged in live theatre.
As well as a successful career on stage, I have more recently found a love of working in front of the camera. Most recently, I have appeared on C4's award winning period drama 'The Mill', playing the small role of Spinner (series two). I have also worked for various corporate companies helping to train and educate industry professionals and featured in the 2015 promotional footage for the Rugby World Cup.
It was always a dream to one day open my own theatre school and PQA offers so many fantastic opportunities. By being able to share my passion and encourage each and every pupil is so rewarding and I cannot wait to welcome you to my Academy and share this with you.
Hi, I'm Flo and I'll be teaching the Poppets class at PQA Halifax.
I started singing and performing at the age of 5 and absolutely fell in love with the stage.
I graduated from Leeds College of Music with a First-Class Honours degree in Music Performance and have been doing one to one vocal coaching and training choirs for about 3 years now.
I'm very excited to be inspiring the youngest members of PQA and preparing them for the main academy.
Comedy & Drama
Hi, I'm Mudassar and I am a professional actor and theatre technician.
I trained at Guildford School of Acting, gaining an Acting MA, following a BA in Television and Film Studies at the University of Bradford.
I'm currently represented by Global Artists and have acted on-stage and on-screen for the last five years, appearing on various BBC, ITV and Channel 4 shows.
When I'm not performing, I also work as a theatre technician across theatres in the Sheffield region, but live in Leeds with my wife and our imaginary cat, Jeff.
I am very excited to begin my journey with PQA Halifax.
Hello, my name is Ian and I am delighted to be the Musical Theatre teacher at PQA Halifax.
I first took to the stage when I was 11 and since then, have performed in many shows around the Leeds area from musicals to pantomimes performing in theatres such as West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Bradford Alhambra.
In 2009 I graduated from the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in London with a degree in Dance and Musical Theatre leading to performing in Hotels across the Mediterranean to character and parade performer at Disney land Paris.
I am really pleased to be the Musical Theatre teacher for PQA Halifax and can't wait to bring all the latest and famous West End and Broadway musical numbers to life.
Film & TV Assistant
Hi, I'm Holly and I am excited to be the Film and Tv Assistant at PQA Halifax.
I began performing at the age of 3, starting with dancing, then moving towards the performing arts before mainly focussing on acting. I instantly fell in love with it all and despite nerves and the fear of messing up, I knew it was what I wanted to do.
I have been in several shows with local youth theatre companies including Halifax Light Opera Society and Bradford Youth Players and have been lucky enough to perform at the Alhambra Studios, St George's Hall, Bradford Playhouse and Square Chapel Arts Centre.
I have previously had experience working in a school, helping to teach, but I am really looking forward to inspiring others with something I am incredibly passionate about.
Hi! My Name is Libbie. I am 23 Years Old from Leeds; West Yorkshire and I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama and Theatre Studies.
Since Graduating, I have worked in schools across the North West facilitating drama workshops and have collaborated with companies such as the Royal Opera and the Tate Museum. I have also been involved in projects working in dementia homes and churches on community theatre.
I have always had a passion for theatre from a young age. I myself attended a theatre school when I was younger, so I know just how fun it was and how many avenues it opened up for me!
When I'm not busy being a drama queen, I love getting lost in vintage shops and attending lots of Music and Art Festivals!
