PQA Evesham opened at the Arts Centre, Evesham in October 2011. Since then, we have managed to create many exciting opportunities for our fantastic students. PQA Evesham students have been awarded three film-making awards at a national level; seen two of their own original films premiered at the Empire Theatre in London's Leicester Square; taken a story-telling class with a BAFTA award winning writer; danced with choreographer, Sean Paul Smith - who has worked with pop acts including JLS and Cheryl Cole; learnt grisly make-up techniques from TV and Film effects professional, Mike Peel; studied Radio Drama with an actress from BBC Radio Four's The Archers, Sunny Ormonde, and discussed stand-up with two of TVs most popular comedians - Sean Walsh and Josh Widdcombe.

2016 was a fantastic year for PQA Evesham! Our West End performance of The Lazy Ace at Her Majesty's Theatre, London was a highlight for us all. The magic and excitement of being on stage at such an iconic theatre created an amazing experience. Every single student surpassed all expectations and performed to a fantastic standard. All students gained a Distinction for their 'Performance in Production' Trinity award.

A group of PQA Evesham students were also lucky enough to travel to Disneyland Paris to attend a Musical Theatre workshop and enjoy the parks together. Our wonderful tutor inspired us all and provided lots of information for students who may one day want to experience working for Disney.

We all had a great time watching our parents perform an unforgettable version of Bohemian Rhapsody during our Parents Workshop. After a couple of hours of rehearsal, our parents went head-to head on stage with students for a sing-off. Having worked so hard, their performance resulted in a standing ovation and the grown-ups were declared the winners for being such incredible sports.

All students enjoyed a puppet-making workshop this year alongside our Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and TV & Film classes. We experimented with special effects in our film classes and shot our new drama 'Will and Anne' on location in Stratford upon Avon. Our Red Group students put on their annual Cabaret Evening, providing a chance for our eldest students to showcase the performance and confidence skills they have gained through their work at PQA.

We also welcomed our newest member of PQA Evesham to the family this summer – our Comedy & Drama teacher Claire and husband Pete welcomed baby Rose to the world. We also ate cake to help raise money for our Green Group assistant, Courtney, to travel to Kenya to teach and inspire children just as she does for us every Saturday.

2017 also brought plenty of excitement. We focussed on 'on location filming' and travelled to Venice & Verona in Italy for a Performing Arts trip during which we visited the 'real' Juliet balcony!

As ever, the most important element at PQA Evesham for 2018 will be the performing arts skills, confidence and friendships we continue to develop. As one of our students said recently "This is the place that I can be myself. With people just like me."

Meet the Team

Trelawney Kerrigan

Principal, Film & TV

Trelawney Kerrigan - Principal, Film & TV

Hi, my name is Trelawney Kerrigan and I'm delighted to be Principal of PQA Evesham.

My passion for producing high quality drama began with a work placement within the BBC Radio Drama department. As a new writer, I came to understand the importance of well-crafted scripts, great acting and strong direction. My journey which has taken me from radio drama to television soap story-lining; acting classes at The Poor School and Workhouse Theatre in London to screen-writing summits in Hollywood, led by script consultants to 20th Century Fox, Disney Studios, Universal and Tristar Pictures. My stage play 'I Warn You Not to be Ordinary' was performed at the Old Stock Theatre as part of The Capital Festival of New Writing.

I have worked with many groups of fledging writers – recently one of students secured a place at university studying film, a dream come true for this inspiring young woman who had arrived at her first class with very little confidence in her own ability – "I'm really excited about uni and would never have got there without your courses."

I am currently thrilled to be working with a Hollywood based script developer on an original film project and look forward to passing on all I am learning to our PQA Evesham students. At PQA Evesham we strive to build confidence and allow each student's voice to be heard. We are very excited about our forthcoming West End performance in an original teen musical and continue to be inspired and challenged by wonderful students.

Claire

Film & Television

Claire - Film & Television

Claire achieved a BA Hons 1st in Drama and Education shortly before joining PQA Evesham back in 2010. Claire has recently completed her PGCE having gained a BA Hons 1st in Drama and Education studies. She was President of her university drama society and directed the final year production.

Claire has gained a great deal of experience in teaching performing arts to children of all ages throughout her studies. She has a natural ability to inspire students, allowing the most timid of pupils to find their place and shine. She has a warm and funny personality with a flair for comedy and a true passion for teaching drama.

Claire has worked on - and appeared in - several of our award winning films. Her most memorable role to date was Effie Trinket in our Hunger Games spoof, 'The Younger Games' - a movie premiered in London's Leicester Square.

"I believe that children have the greatest creative ability as they possess unlimited imagination and unparalleled creative energy. I particularly enjoy teaching children to harness their ideas and teaching them to experiment and expand on them through drama and performance, and have a good time doing it!"

Bethaney
