Meet the Team

Jenna

Principal

Jenna - Principal

Hi, my name is Jenna Hones and I am delighted to introduce myself as the Principal of PQA Eastleigh.

I started dancing at the age of 3, attending a local dance school most evenings and competing in nationwide competitions.
I went on to train at Bodywork, Cambridge Performing Arts, where I graduated with a distinction in my diploma, and have since gone on to have a successful career as a professional dancer.

I began my career as the Irish Lead in the 10th anniversary UK tour of Spirit of the Dance, continuing onto an international tour.

I then went on to travel the world for many years as Dance Captain with P&O Cruises, performing in a variety of west end standard shows across the fleet with Headliners Theatre Company onboard Oriana, Aurora, Azura, and part of the inaugural cast on Ventura.

I have danced at numerous corporate events and my television credits include BBC Sea City, Formula One and Blue Peter.

More recently I have worked as assistant choreographer for Carnival UK, teaching and directing professional singers and dancers for P&O cruises production shows.

I have also worked as a choreographer at a number of corporate events and productions across the country.

I am incredibly passionate about the Performing Arts, and my vision, along with my team here at PQA, is to inspire the next generation of talented young performers.

Katie

Vice Principal /Poppets

Katie - Vice Principal /Poppets

I Started dancing at 3 years old and performed a number of times at The Point, Eastleigh with Sandy Beck School of Dancing, this is where the bug for all things dancing and acting started.

I gained a degree in dance and theatre at De Montfort University, Leicester, where I got the opportunity to perform a self-created/directed production at The Haymarket Theatre, Leicester.

Following my graduation I have had a number of jobs, including playing an elf in Lapland, lead roles for Chaplin pantos, a kids party entertainer as well as a dancer for Woking Dance Festival and Stopgap Dance Company.

In 2009 I had the honour of working as a kids entertainer for Disney Cruise Line, based in Florida.

My biggest achievement and proudest moment was dancing at the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony, I loved every minute.

Most recently I have been involved with my local amateur dramatics society, as a performer and choreographer. I also present a show for my local hospital radio every week that keeps me busy.

I have been with PQA since 2010 and love teaching Poppets!

Ben

Comedy & Drama

Ben - Comedy & Drama

Hello! I'm Ben, an electromechanical engineering student at the University of Southampton. Despite my choice of degree, I've had a passion for stage performance from an early age.

After frequently being typecast as the comic relief, I decided to focus my efforts on making people laugh. Since coming to university I have performed, directed and written sketch shows, comedy plays, films and more recently a musical. However, my favourite type of performance has always been improv. After performing in a month-long long-form improv show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe I have become an instructor for improvised comedy at Southampton Comedy Society.

I love watching people grow in confidence on stage and hope to share my passion for comedy and performance with the PQA kids.

Julien

Film & Television

Julien - Film & Television

Hello! My name is Julien, and I am happy to introduce myself as your Film and Television teacher at PQA Eastleigh!

I have been a Cinema lover since my mom put me in front of a screen for the first time, and I have dreamed of a career in filmmaking since I was about sixteen, after watching "The Dead Poet Society."

After completing a High School senior year as an exchange student in the United States, where I started learning about the basics of Videography and Studio production - I moved to the Czech Republic to study filmmaking at Prague Film School. Here I learned through hands-on workshops and countless student short film productions the craft of filmmaking, and graduated with a two-year certificate in 2015, with a specialisation in Screenwriting and Directing.

After completing this practical training, I decided to learn more about the theory and academia of Cinema, and became a student at the University of Southampton, where I am still studying, while working and devising new stories and projects for the future!

I love everything about Cinema, talking about films and filmmaking, and cannot wait to share this passion with all the PQA children, and give them stories to tell and fully live!

Liz

Musical Theatre

Liz - Musical Theatre

Hello. I have been working as a professional actor, director and choreographer for over 20 years, having trained at the Guildford School of Acting; and have directed and/or choreographed over 30 professional plays, musicals and pantomimes, most recently directing Steel Magnolias and choreographing Cinderella for the Queen's Theatre Hornchurch in Essex.

As an actor, I have performed at the National Theatre, in the West End, on large scale UK tours, and in theatres all around the country.

Principal roles in musicals include Mary in Merrily We Roll Along; Miss Hannigan in Annie; Jenny in The Threepenny Opera; Yitzak in Hedwig and the Angry Inch; Myra Yerkes in Road Show; Cassilda in Gondoliers; both Florinda and Rapunzel in Into the Woods; and Madame Giry in Phantom of the Opera. Leading roles in plays include Beverly in Abigail's Party (twice!); Annie Wilkes in Misery; Rose in Brighton Rock; Jean Rice in The Entertainer; Louisa in Hard Times; Fay in Iron; Klytaimestra in Elektra; Marquise de Merteuil in Les Liaisons Dangereuses; Eleanor in Dead Funny; and Nurse in Romeo and Juliet.

I have also worked in television and film, such as Casualty (BBC), Coronation Street (Granada TV), Filthy Cities (BBC), and The Falling (BBC/Malady Films).

I am currently taking a career break and looking forward to sharing my love of musical theatre with the students at PQA.

Redmond

Film & Television Assistant

Redmond - Film & Television Assistant

I'm currently studying Economics at the University of Southampton, but I'm also an amateur filmmaker and a member of Wessex Films the University's film-making society.

I've attended many acting and theatre classes growing up. Being on the stage or behind a camera were some of the best times of my life. I'm thrilled to be a part of PQA assisting Film and Television classes. I really want to help give a new generation of talent the best possible experience, as well as help prepare them for a career in one of the best and most innovative creative industries!

I'm hoping to pursue a career as a film director and producer myself as watching, writing and making movies is undoubtedly my passion. I couldn't think of anything else I'd rather do with my life, so being able to help kids write and produce their own short films is the perfect way to hone my own filmmaking skills, as well as help inspire a new generation of filmmakers.

I started dancing at age 4 - jazz, tap and then later on through my childhood I branched into ballet and contemporary dance. At age 6, I started singing lessons and piano. The dance, singing and piano included many performances, in and out of school, although my most memorable opportunity through my performing arts life would probably be at age 9 getting the opportunity to sing at the Sydney Opera House.

At age 11 I moved to the UK from Australia and every summer attended the Winchester Theatre Royal summer workshops and Filmmaking for Kids in Basingstoke. After completing my GCSE drama, I volunteered to work at the Gobblefunk Summer Workshops for Kids at the Theatre Royal as well as volunteering at a local Nursery with ages 0-4 and Kidz Camp with ages 6-11.

I am passionate about performing arts and also working with young children. I am delighted to be working with the Poppets at PQA, and I love seeing how quickly the Poppet's grow with their singing, dancing, acting and their communication.

Darrell

I started dancing at the age of 3 years with ballet and reached RAD Elementary Level.
At the age of 11 I auditioned for the local amateur pantomime at the Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke as a child dancer alongside Elizabeth Hurley who was playing Gretel.

After appearing in many pantomimes and Musicals with them I moved to Southampton where I joined Southampton Musical Society dancing, and acting in roles at the Mayflower Theatre and Winchester Theatre Royal.

My most memorable roles would be a Cell Block H girl in Chigago , A Cagelle In La Cage Au Folles,
Maxine in Stepping Out, Urusla in Sweet Charity, and how could I forget the Goose that laid the golden egg in Mother Goose!!!

In the year 2000 I became part of the first all girl offshore powerboat team in the world at the time with my best friend Shelley Jory Leigh (BBC radio H2O show)
I joined the PQA team in 2013 and enjoy watching the children develop and being part of a great team. Although I no longer perform I still enjoy seeing shows with Musical Theatre being my favourite.

I've always had a huge passion for performing arts having attended a weekend theatre school from age 6 and being involved in numerous shows with amateur theatre groups such as Footlights Youth Theatre and RAODS. Alongside this I have also obtained LAMDA acting qualifications to Grade 8 and London College of Musical Theatre qualifications to Grade 4: both at Distinction level. At school I took part in many school productions including both musicals and plays the most memorable being Mark Wheeller's 'Hard to Swallow' which was commissioned and filmed by the Eduqas GCSE exam board. I also obtained A grades in both my Drama and Dance GCSEs. I am now studying Drama and Theatre Studies A Level alongside History and English Literature at Barton Peveril College. I have always loved working with children and in 2017 I undertook a 2 week volunteer trip to Kenya working in a project school completing building work but primarily teaching and playing with the children.

I am very excited to be working with the young people at PQA seeing their energy, enthusiasm, and confidence!
