Our aim is to introduce the ethos behind The Pauline Quirke Academy, to demonstrate what we do and how we achieve our goals, how your children will benefit from our classes and, above all, to allow your children to get a flavour of The Academy.

Following a brief introduction the children are divided into age groups and get to sample classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television (don't worry if your child does not want to join in at this stage, we know that some will be shy, they can just watch and possibly have a go when they're ready). Parents are welcome to stay with their children – of course this happens with the younger groups but teenagers will usually not have their parents anywhere near an unpolished performance!

During the classes parents can have some refreshments, a chat with the PQA staff, and really begin to learn what we are all about! We would also encourage spending some time sneaking a look at your children during their sessions. They really are great fun...
...I look forward to meeting you on the day!

Marie Stimson-Machers – Principal PQA Cirencester

Meet the Team

Marie Stimson-Machers

Marie Stimson-Machers - Principal

Marie studied Film & Television with Theatre Studies at Derby University followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Drama & Contextual Studies at The University of Reading. After one year of teaching, she was promoted to Head of Drama and has continued in this role for 16 years in the local area – most recently as Head of Drama at The Crypt Grammar School in Gloucester.

In 2003 she attained her Post Graduate Diploma in Education (Performance Coaching) and also started working for Edexcel as a GCSE Drama examiner. Twelve years later, she is now on the senior team, in the role of Assistant Principal Moderator.

Marie is also a trained Arts Award advisor (up to and including Gold) and after 16 years in Education, has finally 'left school' to run PQA full time, though she can still be 'spotted' doing a little bit of supply teaching!

In her 'spare' time she is also mum to three boys.......!

Film & Television

Chris - Film & Television

Chris graduated from Liverpool University with a B.A. (Hons) 2:1 in Drama and English Literature before completing his Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Manchester University.

Head of Drama posts at schools in Wolverhampton, London and Cornwall followed before he moved to Stroud to take on the role of Head of Performing and Media Arts at Maidenhill School in Stonehouse, a secondary school with specialist status in the Performing Arts. As well as leading a department Chris is also BTEC Quality Nominee for the school ensuring the smooth running of their vocational qualifications.

Chris is also an experienced director of youth theatre with acclaimed productions of 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'We Will Rock You' and 'Hairspray' to name but a few. He is also co-founder of 'Dead Ernest Theatre Company', which has toured the South-West with performances of John Godber's 'Bouncers' (in which he played Judd) and Ben Elton's 'Popcorn', which he directed.

Comedy & Drama

Robin - Comedy & Drama

Robin lived in Stroud for 12 years before deciding to become a performer. He has been training in Contemporary Circus and Physical Performance at the Circomedia academy in Bristol, specialising in object manipulation. He is now part of a team called Circus Thirtysix, creating outdoor performances and teaching juggling, acrobatic and equilibristic skills.

Robin is enthusiastic about sharing his skills, and using Circus arts as a medium to encourage creative thinking and physical exploration.

He is very excited to be coming to Cirencester to teach!

Chloe - Poppets

Chloe trained with PQA and after a spell assisting with Poppets she now leads the classes.

She had a part in the BBC's production of 'Cider with Rosie' and also works as a 'scare' actor in the Frightmare Halloween Festival in Gloucestershire. She holds several qualifications in Musical Theatre and Drama – most recently Grade 6 in Individual Acting. Other talents include singing and playing the guitar.

Chloe has plans to go to Drama School with the desire to find full time professional work in both theatre and film projects.

Teaching Assistant

Carrick - Teaching Assistant

Carrick attended PQA Cheltenham before moving to Stroud and now Cirencester!  He has officially been a member of PQA for over 6 years.

He gained an A* in his GCSE Drama and is the only PQA student in the country to have achieved Grade 8 (Merit) in Individual Acting. He also sings, to grade 4 standard and has won 2nd prize in the Musical Theatre category at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.

Carrick is now studying A'Level Theatre Studies, Maths and Government & Politics after earning himself a Drama scholarship at Wycliffe College and wants to go to drama school in New York to train as an actor.

He has a (not so) secret passion for 'The Rocky Horror Show' and on occasion, can be spotted tottering around in 10inch heels...
