Our aim is to introduce the ethos behind The Pauline Quirke Academy, to demonstrate what we do and how we achieve our goals, how your children will benefit from our classes and, above all, to allow your children to get a flavour of the Academy.
Following a brief introduction the children are divided into age groups and get to sample classes in Musical Theatre, Comedy & Drama and Film & Television (don't worry if your child does not want to join in at this stage, we know that some will be shy, they can just watch and possibly have a go when they're ready). Parents are welcome to stay with their children – of course this happens with the younger groups but teenagers will usually not have their parents anywhere near an unpolished performance!
During the classes parents can have some refreshments, a chat with the PQA staff, and really begin to learn what we are all about! We would also encourage spending some time sneaking a look at your children during their sessions. They really are great fun...
...I look forward to meeting you on the day!

Vice Principal & Poppets Assistant
From the age of three, I was a dancer and took part in dance festivals and championships all over the North West. From the age of eleven, I joined amateur dramatic societies and performed in shows ranging from musicals to Operas, compilation and revue shows.
I also performed in professional pantomimes at the Albert Halls in Bolton securing the role of Dance Captain on several occasions. These experiences developed my confidence and personality as well as my stage presence.
On leaving high school I have worked at several companies, working very hard to climb the corporate ladder gaining experience and promotions along the way.
Three years ago, I became a Mum and have enjoyed my time at home with my little girl.
I am now a qualified Teaching Assistant and am continuing my studies at Bury College whilst also working at Greenhill Primary School.
I am absolutely thrilled to join the PQA Bury team as Poppets Assistant and Vice Principal and I am so looking forward to moulding our stars of the future through PQA Bury!
Hi I'm Harriet, and I am thrilled to be the Musical Theatre teacher at the brand new PQA Bury!
I have recently graduated from The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (North), where I studied acting for three years. I was born in Bury and grew up in York.
Before going to drama school, I was always rehearsing and performing in musicals with York College, and at The Grand Opera House, with York Stage Musicals.
My first job after graduating was workshopping a brand new West End musical, The Band (the Take That musical). I love dancing and throughout training I have studied ballet, tap, jazz and period movement. At school, I sang in the Jazz Band, and I also had my own folk band where I played double bass which is double the size of me!
I love hiking and climbing mountains and I hope one day to walk from Canada to Mexico
Comedy & Drama
Hi, I'm Sally and I'm so excited to be teaching the comedy and drama classes at PQA Bury.
I have been teaching drama for over fifteen years and I'm currently a lecturer in performing arts for Bolton college.
I studied physical theatre and dance at the University of Salford and after graduating, I wrote and performed comedy plays in many fringe venues around Manchester and performed stand-up comedy in venues such as the Comedy Store and the Frog and Bucket.
I've worked behind the scenes on some of the biggest touring theatre shows, such as Starlight Express, CATS, Fame the Musical, Chicago and many more.
I've written, produced and directed over twenty theatre plays, been an acting agent and even owned my own fringe theatre in Manchester – so I bring a lot of industry knowledge and experience into my classrooms.
I love nothing more than helping young people grow in confidence and believe in their abilities and I'm excited to be a part of the PQA Bury team.
Film & Television
I'm Dave Turner and I have been working in the media industry for nearly 6 years now. I started out as an Actor which I still am, garnering credits in film, TV and theatre including Crimes that Shook Britain, Whiteblade and Perfect Skin starring Richard Brake from Game of Thrones and Batman Begins.
I then started out on a journey that lead me to start writing, producing, editing and VFX. I wrote my first feature screenplay called Dream Finder and met my business partner Alex De Luca where we created the production company Clouded Sight Pictures Ltd.
Since then I have produced multiple films including Whiteblade, Dream Finder and Stormwarrior and have recently secured our first feature Independent Dreams and worldwide distribution with LA distribution company Indie Rights Movies.
On top of actively working in the industry for several years I have been teaching at other performing arts schools. I really enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience. My passion for this industry is only rivaled by the love I have for my children and family.
Hi, I'm Lucy Taylor and I'm delighted to be the Poppets teacher at PQA Bury.
Since a young age I have been involved in performances and a member of drama and dance schools the whole way through my schooling life. When I started Secondary School I developed a new interest in singing and I began vocal training, achieving my Grade 6 in Singing after five years.
Up until I started Sixth-Form College, drama, dance and singing were purely hobbies of mine and it wasn't until I began my A-Level in Drama and Theatre Studies that it became a dream of mine to achieve a career within the subject.
I have been involved in many shows and productions both as the cast and as part of the production team. I played the leading role of 'Bottom' in the Bury Met's production of Shakespeare's 'A midsummer night's dream'. I have been part of the chorus in the musical 'Sound of Music' and had roles in many plays such as John Godber's 'Happy Jack' and Jim Cartwrights 'Two'.
Whilst studying for my degree, myself and three of my fellow students set up a Theatre Company named 'Tagged Theatre'. The company deal with current societal issues and pressures facing young people and teenagers such as body image.
Prior to working at PQA, I was the artistic director of a disability arts theatre project named 'Fuse', making and touring shows across North Yorkshire.
I studied for 3 years at York St John University and graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Theatre. It was during my degree that I realised that teaching was the career path I wanted to go down, specifically in the area of performance. I begin studying for my teaching degree in September 2017, alongside working at PQA as the teacher of the Poppets class.
Hi, I'm Lucy and I am so excited to start as an Academy Assistant at PQA Bury!
My passion for performing arts began at an early age when I started cheerleading for Bury FC. I grew up dancing on the pitch on match days and competing in competitions across the country. I then became more versatile and confident as a performer during high school and college.
I've performed at many different venues for example, the Lowry, worked with professional companies such as Birmingham Royal Ballet and during college I took a lead role in many of our productions.
I have achieved a Level 1 qualification in Dance Leadership and I have recently completed a 3 Year Performing Arts Course at Bury College with a grade of triple distinction.
