There is no one 'star' performer at our academy - they're all stars, and will all have an equal opportunity to dazzle you with their new-found skills."

Please be advised that PQA Brentwood unfortunately does not run PQA Poppets classes (for 4-6 year olds).

Meet the Team

Stephen Hawke

Stephen Hawke - Principal

I am simply delighted to be involved with The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Brentwood. The family feel we encourage and embrace each Saturday makes the week a complete and happy one, sharing the smiles, warm hearts and fun as it comes through the welcome doors, and nurturing the confidence and talent of all our wonderful students.

Now in our ninth year at PQA Brentwood, I promote & continue the philosophy of providing a creative, fun, learning environment for Drama, Theatre & the Performing Arts for our young people.

As one of life's "creatives" I have been professionally involved in Theatre & Dramatic Arts for around seventeen years, having been first inspired by Willie Russell's West End Production of Blood Brothers back in the late 90's.

I received initial Training as an actor at the Norwich Theatre Royal & "The Garage" in various aspects of Acting, Theatre & Stagecraft, and after being trained in unarmed stage combat, classical acting methodology and realism, aspirations of coaching the Dramatic Arts became a natural progression for me & to which I now dedicate all my time.

Attending C.C.A.T.S Drama College & with a passion for Shakespeare, I received professional accreditation as both Actor & Teacher (following The Trinity College London curriculum) where I am soon to begin working towards a Licentiate accreditation in Applied Speech & Drama).

Past Stage credits include (among others), "Dr Chapman -marriage guidance Counsellor" in Michael Cooney's "Cash on Delivery" (Best Supporting Actor award), the U-Boat Commander "Don't Tell him your name Pike" in "Dads Army", "The Hotel Inspector" in "Fawlty Towers", Malcolm Hedley - News Anchorman in "Dark Justice" & I also auditioned for West End productions of "Ghost Stories" and "Blackwatch".

TV, movie & ad/commercial appearances range from Government Alcohol awareness campaign "Know your Limits", through to Tetley Tea, BT, Google, BT Sport, Sky Sport, Sony (Playstation), VW & SEAT car companies, Nike, & M&M Sweets (which has an amusing story!).

As an actor and featured / Supporting Artiste, I have been seen in popular Soaps such as "Eastenders", "Midsomer Murders", "Silent Witness" "Holby" & was a prior regular in "The Bill". I have also been featured in many TV programmes, such as "Law & Order" (with Bradley Walsh), "Hope & Glory" (Lenny Henry), Sherlock, Whitechapel, Spooks, Todd Margaret, Miranda, The Steven K Amos Show, Chucklevision, and enjoyed a recurring role in Victoria Wood's Christmas Special, Bigger budget productions include Sky Atlantic blockbuster series "The Last Panthers" with John Hurt, Sky One's "Critical" (with Lenny James) and & movies including "Franklyn", "Reuniting the Rubins" (Timothy Spall) "Maybe Baby" (starring Hugh Laurie/directed by Ben Elton), Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1, "Sleepy Hollow" (Johnny Depp), X-Men First Class (20th Century Fox, starring James McAvoy), & Sleepy Head etc. (I also appeared as a supporting actor in the popular series "Missing" starring our very own Pauline!)

I am a firm believer in the PQA "serious fun" philosophy for our students. Enjoyment whilst learning is fundamental to any child's development & seeing our students having a great time whilst achieving their personal goals however big or small & gaining confidence and life skills is a hugely rewarding experience.

With a hand-picked team of dedicated, h professional teachers (all of whom are working actors, actresses, Choreographers, singers & Film Directors/producers), I know that the enthusiasm, ability & creative, fun-approach adopted by all of us at PQA will continue to be a fabulous environment for your children.

See you Saturday!

Musical Theatre

Natalie - Musical Theatre

Natalie has a love and passion for the theatre which started when she went to her first dance class in her home-town of Portsmouth at the age of 6 - fast forward 46 years and she still has that same love and passion (although maybe not as much flexibility!!) Let me fill in the gaps! Natalie went on to train at the prestigious Laine Theatre Arts college in Epsom where she graduated with distinction in performance and teachers qualifications. It was then that she went on to work as a dancer in an era where variety was at it's height - and so was lucky enough to work with legends such as Les Dawson, Ken Dodd, Leslie Crowther, Russ Abbott, Lenny Henry, Cannon and Ball - the list goes on! Natalie has over 30 pantomimes to her credit - 15 as a dancer and then after understudying Marti Webb at the London Palladium in the role of Robin Hood, playing the part for 12 performances, Natalie was offered her first role - Dandini- and never looked back. Numerous roles
were to follow.... Aladdin, Jack, Tiger Lily, Dick Whittington, Pinnochio, Bad fairy, Queen Rat, Wicked Witch of the West -and this year will have the opportunity to play her all time favourite role- Wicked Queen in Snow White.

Her dancing career took her all over the world including -The Falkland Islands, The Ascension Islands, Belize, Canada, Ireland and Germany- as well as numerous tours in the UK as a cabaret singer in shows such as 'Chartbuster's and ' West End showstoppers'.
Natalie has also toured playing the role of 'Rosalia' in West Side Story as well as both 'Maxine' and Mavis in separate tours of 'stepping out'
Television appearances include 'Annette' in 'Howard's Way (for those of you who can remember that far back!!) Comedy sketches on The Les Dennis and Dustin Gee laughter show. As well as dancing in many TV shows back in the 80's - The Ken Dodd series. New Entertainers with Jim Davidson for LWT as well as numerous commercials for various coffee/supermarket and nation rail companies!

For the past 7 years Natalie has been presenting on various shopping channels - including, Price drop TV, Speed Auction TV, Bid up TTV and more recently as a guest presenter on QVC - where she got to combine x2 of her favourite things - shopping and talking!!
Natalie has also choreographed and directed many shows - pantomimes, summer seasons, variety shows and tours.
Along side all this, Natalie has always found time for teaching -drama, jazz, Ballet, modern, tap, singing etc etc! Her passion lies in Musical Theatre where she gets to combine all her favourite genres!
However - Natalie states that her greatest creation is her daughter Lori - who will be following in her footsteps both as a performer and teacher - and she couldn't be more proud!
A huge welcome to Natalie, who is delighted to be the newest member of our professional teaching team and looking forward to being an integral part of our supportive PQA Brentwood family.

Musical Theatre Teaching Assistant

Lori - Musical Theatre Teaching Assistant

Hi, I am Lori and I am 18 years old and currently in my second Year of studying professional Musical Theatre and Dance at CPA Studios. Getting to do what I love every day is simply incredible, and I adore being able to share this passion with the students of PQA Brentwood.

I have been very lucky to have already performed in various places and in numerous shows throughout my teenage years, including a performance in a Les Miserable' Medley in 'One Night Only' at The London Palladium, alongside Kimberley Knight and Brian Conley. It was an amazing experience in aid of Charity and helped raise lots of money for Breast Cancer Haven. I was also proud to be a part of the Hamley's Toy Parade at Regent Street in 2016 as a dancer for 'Everything's Rosie', (a popular children's TV Show on CBeebies. Most recently I played the role of "Wendy Darling" in the pantomime Peter Pan at the Kenneth Moore Theatre over Christmas. This was such an incredible experience with it being my first leading role of a Professional Stage Production.

As a younger teacher, who is still learning many things herself, I feel a big connection with each student and admire the shared respect we all give to each other and feel I learn so much from them all too. Working at PQA Brentwood is truly one of the most rewarding experiences I have had, and seeing the students develop in confidence and maturity, and getting to see them turn into, not only beautiful performers, but beautiful people, is something I will forever cherish. They are my family, and seeing such young talent and determination gives me so much confidence in their futures, whether it be in the performing arts arena or any other avenue they choose to pursue. They all have the potential to be anything they want to be, and my job is to make sure they never forget that!

Lori is a fabulous, enthusiastic and hugely welcome member of our PQA Brentwood Team, and although only 18 years old, has oodles of experience for her young years, being an exceptional Choreographer, with a fabulous voice and a simply excellent rapport with all our students across all age groups. Welcome Lori to the PQA Family.

Teaching Assistant

Joseph - Teaching Assistant

Joseph is a very welcome and experienced addition to our PQA Team.
Growing up in a performing environment, he has attended Performing Arts schools since he was very young (his first show when he was eight years old, was the Rocky Horror Show playing Riff-Raff and then he starred in "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat".
He attended The Sylvia Young Theatre School for three years, and became a prefect/greeter, before starting at PQA Chelmsford on its opening in 2008.
He considers himself very fortunate to have been accepted into three Drama Schools, eventually choosing the well known and tough "Poor School" of Acting and Dramatic Arts in the centre of London, where he has since appeared in many professionally produced Plays such as The Crucible (Arthur Miller), Hay Fever (Noel Coward), Portrait of a Madonna (Tennessee Williams), The Seagull and Uncle Vanya (both by Anton Chekhov), Ghosts (Henrik Ibsen), Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet (by William Shakespeare).
More recently Joseph has appeared in TV Pilot Series (Maid of Dockland), and is currently auditioning for Stage and screen, working on TV and Feature Film Projects which will be announced shortly, making him a very versatile Assistant in both our PQA TV and Film, and Comedy and Drama modules.

With a trained baritone voice, Joseph has also featured in Musical Revues and recitals, receiving high acclaim performing "Tell My Father" as Private Sam Taylor in the Musical Civil War (Boyd, Wildhorn and Murphy) and in "New Brain" (Roger Delli-Bovi)
Skilled in may dialects and accents, Joseph has also recently become an accredited member of the British Academy of Dramatic Combat (BADC), receiving a High Distinction in his last exam with True Edge Combat. Trained in sword fighting choreography with foil, sabre and cutlass, as well as staff and unarmed combat techniques and choreography for film and stage, Joseph is undergoing continuous training throughout the year, to become an instructor in advanced techniques and weapons choreography, where he looks forward to sharing these techniques with our students at PQA.
Joseph enjoys relaxing by writing short stories, Poems and Prose, and has many featured writings on You Tube, with well know Bloggers reading his work to the world.
As an experienced actor for his young years, Joseph is a hugely valuable asset to us all.

"I am very proud to be an inclusive member of the PQA team of professionals, where I really enjoy working with the students, imparting my knowledge, skills and experience, and seeing their development and enjoyment of what we do each week"
