Our Autumn term showcase was held on 21st January and the children performed a variety of Comedy and Drama and Musical Theatre pieces which they had been rehearsing in class.
Our older group performed a devised improvisation of Snow White and the Seven (or Ten) Dwarves, reworked by our teacher, Jason Middleton and included lots of unseen footage of the classic Disney tale.
With lines suitable for all ages, Jason bought a ‘Shrek’ appeal to the story, along with some modernisation to ensure some laughs. This did not disappoint. Due to a distinct lack of special effects, this too was written in to the story, receiving the most laughs, mainly due to the dead pan timing of the children in the scenes.
The youngest group performed a re-written version of The Three Little Pigs, with classic jokes including the Two Ronnie’s ‘Four Candles’ sketch. A bit beyond the 6 – 9 year olds cast in the play, but received well by their parents! Again, Jason had included some current affairs jokes in to the script, which the children delivered extremely well. Many comments were made following the showcase as to the hilarity of the pieces and ‘where did you get these scripts from?’ All original Middleton masterpieces!
Alongside the laughs were performances from our 10 – 12 year olds, including 90’s pop songs High and C’est La Vie as well as musical numbers from Grease and Hairspray. A mixture of song and dance choreographed by Steph and Molly. The older girls also performed All That Jazz while the boys became puppets in We Both Reached for the Gun, both songs from Chicago.
Well done to all involved. We can certainly see the standard improving with every showcase. Here’s to the next one in May!
