Principal: Halys O’Neill
My name is Halys O’Neill.
I am 40 years old, am married to Dylan and have two children, Callum – 9 and Caitie – 7. I live in Greenisland.
I am originally from Portstewart on the north coast.
When I left school I went to London and did a BA (Hons) in Music and Drama at Brunel University. I did my PGCE at University of Ulster at Jordanstown and took up my first teaching position in Templemore Secondary School in Derry. From Templemore I moved to New-Bridge Integrated College in Loughbrickland.
Having married and moved to Greenisland I then took up the position of Head of Music in Ulidia Integrated College where I worked for 5 years.
After having Caitie I decided to work part-time and took up a position as an Educator with Life Education Centres, a drug education charity for primary school children, based in North Down and Ards. I worked for LEC and as a drugs trainer for ASCERT in Lisburn for 4 years before moving into the community development field.
In my role as community development worker in the Greenisland area I set up a community theatre company which is still going from strength to strength and is working towards it’s 4th production in January ’09.
I am currently an active member of the New Lyric Operatic Company in Belfast which gives me an outlet for my need to sing, dance and generally show-off!!!
I have always been a performer – singing, dancing, acting or playing the violin and piano – but never together!!!!
All of the above together with my experience in the technical side of theatre are now being fully utilised at PQA Belfast.
