These sessions are primarily devoted to expanding the student’s knowledge of different theatrical forms and techniques. Work on expanding the imagination is paramount – encouraging spontaneity through improvisation. Drama games help build trust and openness whilst work on voice and physicality (helping to create a strong, resonant speaking voice with clear diction), builds self-awareness and confidence - skills valuable not just in the theatre but in everyday life.
Script work will also be introduced at an appropriate stage, which will take students on a theatrical journey from classic to modern pieces. The texts are not studied academically, but theatrically – as they were meant to be approached.
Students will experience work in a number of styles and forms, including mime and mask work, stage combat (for older students) and devised pieces.
During holiday workshops, short plays may be mounted – some of which will include pieces specifically written for PQA students by our Creative Directors.
