HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY PQA RUTLAND!

To commemorate our first year, we held a small party at our home at Uppingham Community College. There was a performance by our talented Red Group, the premiere of PQA Rutland’s ‘Harlem Shake’, a birthday raffle, speeches and, of course, a cake!

We have packed so many exciting things into our first year; two incredible showcases, a performance of a ‘Lion King’ medley by our Green Group at the annual Christmas event in the church at Uppingham, a Stage Combat Masterclass by film and theatre stage fighting experts, True Edge, a Casualty Make Up Masterclass by the Harry Potter films Special Effects Supervisor, Mike Peel, and so much more! As we enter our second year working on our shorts films for the upcoming Red Carpet event, it seems that the next 12 months are going to be even more exciting than the first!

Thanks to all the team at PQA Rutland for making it a magical first year, and to our fantastic parents for their ongoing support of what is fast becoming Rutland’s most popular performing arts academy!

ZOMBIES AND GHOULS TAKE OVER PQA LEICESTER!

There were zombies limping and ghouls hurrying along the corridors of South Leicestershire College as our students finally got to try on their costumes for our West End production, ‘Fright Night’ on Saturday.

With just three weeks to go until the show, there was a real buzz of anticipation and excitement in the air as the students transformed in front of our eyes into zombies, ghouls, monsters and freaks!

Our next update is likely to be after the show itself, so PQA Leicester would like to wish all of our talented students the very best of luck for their West End debut! We hope that you enjoy every moment of this amazing opportunity and remember it for a very long time to come.

PQA WOLVERHAMPTON NEW THEATRE COMPLEX COMING SOON

Students at the Wolverhampton branch of the Pauline Quirke Academy will soon have access to a brand new state of the art theatre complex being built as part of the Aldersley High Schools remodeling, as it becomes a Performing Arts Academy.

The whole school is currently undergoing renovation to bring the facilities up to date, this is causing a little disruption but will in just a few months give us great facilities for Pauline Quirke Academy to use.

The complex should be finished by Late October and available to us to use around that date, we have been invited by the school to participate in the opening of the new facilities and maybe even cooperate in arranging for a special guest to formally open them.

CROYDON STUDENTS RECORDING SESSION

Croydon students get to record their backing tracks for the West End show Fright Night.

Last Saturday students from PQA Croydon got to record their very own backing tracks for their West End show. Over the course of the day every student involved with the show spent time infront of the microphone working with a professional sound recordist and learning recording and microphone techniques.

The final results sound fantastic and give us superb professional quality backing tracks to use when we hit the West End next month.

PQA CAMBRIDGE RED STUDENTS FILM DOCUMENTARY IN MANCHESTER

On April the 28th Guy and Corin from the Red Group had the exciting opportunity to take part in filming a documentary through their internship with Orbital Pictures.

The boys traveled all the way down to Manchester after their Saturday session at PQA so they could be up and ready bright and early Sunday morning. The documentary covered the 2013 Cheshire Classic Women’s Road Race focusing on the race winner Karla Boddy. The documentary includes several Olympic cyclists including an interview from Sarah Storey. The crew was split into two teams; Guy and Corin were offered important crew roles such as Camera Operators and Editors. The boys had the chance to experience a professional working environment and their hard work paid off, the video made it onto the British Cycling website. This opportunity offered them the chance to explore a different form of filmmaking that will be explored further this term at Cambridge PQA.

PQA WICKFORD – CHANGE OF VENUE FOR 1ST JUNE

Due to decoration work at the CLC over the half-term, the venue will be closed on 1st June. Fortunately, the head teacher of Grange Primary School has kindly offered her school as an alternative. Grange Primary School is situated in Elder Avenue (the next road along) and the postcode is SS12 0LR. I have seen the rooms available and they are perfectly adequate for our needs. Please drop Green, Blue and Red Group children off at Grange Primary just before 10am. Many thanks.

POPPETS- just for the week of the first, please go straight to the classroom at the Sports Centre as normal where Symren and Grace will be waiting for you. Obviously there will be no whole academy assembly at the CLC for that week. I will pop down from Grange Primary to check everything is ok. (Apologies to parents with children in both Poppets and the older academy).

If you have any questions regarding 1st June, please don’t hesitate to contact me and many thanks for your co-operation.

Best wishes, Teri
