Woodford Green Magic Masterclass
We started our Summer term with a few tricks up our sleeves, literally! In April we welcomed professional magician Marcus Bailey to our academy in Woodford Green. Our students were bewildered by the magic tricks Marcus performed and then had the amazing opportunity to be taught several card tricks to perform to their own friends and family! Check out our photos from our ‘magical’ day!!
Student Shorts on The Big Screen in Woodford Green!
Just before our Easter Break our students were treated to their very own Red Carpet Cinema Screening at our local Odeon cinema in Woodford Green! Students posed and strutted their stuff on the red carpet before viewing short films created by and starring themselves. They have been working on these films for the past two terms, so it was fantastic to finally see the finished product on the big screen! As we all have learnt, the filming process can be a long one, so well done to everyone for all your hard work and efforts. Our next challenge is to create some new short films to be entered into PQA’s very own Film Festival after the Summer Break!
PQA Hertford Big Red Carpet Day!
We recently had our red carpet event at the Empire cinema in Bishops Stortford.
The stars arrived on coaches dressed to impress, with the boys looking sharp in their tuxedos and suits and the girls rocking the red carpet like queens of the catwalk.
In true film premiere style, our stars strutted down the red carpet, flanked with adoring fans, family and friends cheering them on. Cameras flashed and dazzled as the local paparazzi and our very own photographer flown in for the occasion snapped away to make sure they captured every star studded moment.
There was even time for our cast to pose with the two giant 6 foot Oscars that stood at the entrance to the cinema, beckoning our stars forward to join them as part of Hollywood history.
For a couple of hours, Hollywood well and truly came to town!
PQA Penn Make Up Masterclass
I’m pleased to say that the makeup Master Class was a huge success and I’d like to say a massive thank you to Hannah Wing who was brilliant with the kids and who did such a great job teaching them how to create bruises, wounds and the forever popular Zombie look!
Hannah is going to send me a list of the makeup she used so that we can build up a collection of makeup to use for our Film projects.
Hemel Hempstead Academy Musical Theatre Showcase success!
Hemel Hempstead academy performed their Musical Theatre Showcase at The Sandpit Theatre, to family and friends. Working in a professional theatre gave the students nerves, excitement combined with huge amounts of fun! The day was amazing, it went incredibly smoothly and every single student did such a brilliant job! Well done Hemel…See below some photos from our show!

Students from our sister academy in Bridgnorth join a real film set!!!
Two students from the Bridgnorth academy, Jess Knowles and Amelia Edwards, spent Saturday 21st April in Derbyshire filming for Stop/Eject, a movie by upcoming director/producer Neil Oseman.
The girls had won their role by entering a scriptwriting competition run by the Bridgnorth academy. Principal Julian had donated some money towards financing the film after seeing an appeal by Neil on local TV news. Julian said, “Neil is going to come to the academy at some stage and give the students a talk on how movies are made at the lower budget end of the spectrum, I had the idea to ask him if he would be prepared to include the winner as a prize one evening. I e-mailed Neil not really expecting much but he responded within 20 minutes offering a part, he didn’t even bat an eyelid when I said we had 2 winners”!
Both girls enjoyed their day despite having to dress for a hot summers day while the temperature on set was anything but, cast and crew were most welcoming and ensured that the girls felt involved the whole time. Huge thanks to Neil and everybody involved!!!

Celebrations, DVDs and the Whiteboard of Wonder!
What a busy, exciting couple of weeks at PQA Leicester! The new term couldn’t have got off to a better start, with several of our students being awarded their Creative Stages Foundation Awards. The Creative Stages recognise effort made by our students in their classes, and the awards given out were thoroughly deserved.
It wasn’t just certificates that our students took home last week however. The Red Carpet Event films that they had spent so much time developing and shooting prior to the big screening at Phoenix Square last month have now been put onto a DVD for them to keep! This caused a lot of excitement at the end of Saturday’s session.
Finally, PQA Leicester proudly revealed the Whiteboard of Wonder last week, for students to write down anything that they’d particularly enjoyed in their classes or to recognise fellow classmates’ achievements. We had a lot of fun with it and look forward to hearing more of their positive thoughts this week!
